I finally got around to drawing up a caricature of good ole ice-cream-chucking-private-prison-loving, Governor of Arizona, Doug Ducey. I had been very excited to draw him just because he is quite the cartoonish character in reality. His on-going feud with common sense and State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Diane Douglas, is the stuff of dark comedies. Just when you think Arizona can't lower the bar any more, our state finds a way. The caricature is up for your digital use convenience in my store. Feel free to use it in your blog, article, post or any other opinion piece.
It's been a while since I have posted anything here, mostly due to a busy schedule and being incredibly fatigued all of the time. However, there is some news I feel I need to share.
Firstly, The Tucson Weekly has been purchased by 10/13 Communications. With the new purchase I was informed the budget would be cut and the comics would be cut. Not all comics but some. The Fish Wrap being included in that "some". Although, it was incredibly sad news to hear, I am very grateful for the opportunity I was given to contribute to the Weekly. Special thanks to Dan Gibson and Henry Barajas for their enduring support. It was always a dream of mine to at some point work at my favorite alternative weekly publication. I am very fortunate to have been able to fulfill that aspiration. Good luck to everyone there. Secondly, when one door closes another one opens. I am happy to announce that the good folks at Tucson Sentinel.com have offered me the opportunity to work with them doing political cartoons on the pages of their fine news website beginning in the following weeks. So stay tuned:) This nifty little website provides a cool animated infographic on the history of drone strikes. It begins in 2004 and breaks it down into 4 categories of casualties: "children," "civilians," "other" and "high profile". You'd expect the "high profile" to be the highest percentage what with all the high tech gadgetry that goes into drone strikes, but sadly its not
Arizona is at it again. This is what happens when you don't stand up for equal rights on the first abuse of power. Escalation. The abuse of power continues and so does the ignorant thinking and prejudices. This time around the great state that brought you the "papers please" law and decided to make life more difficult for minorities and immigrants, has decided to persecute the transgender community. Just when I thought they couldn't find more assholey ways to discriminate against minorities, Arizona manages to raise the bar of douchebaggery. This time the proposed bill by state rep. John Kavanagh would require transgender folk to identify their gender as stated on their birth certificate before they use the facilities in a public place or risk facing 6 months in jail. Check out more about this knuckle dragging piece of proposed legislation here.
So uh, this happened. You can now buy my book on Amazon.com for your Kindle. Its 28 pages of full color illustrations lampooning the Arizona political environment and the most recent Presidential election. All for a whopping $1.99 for the digital version of this book. Click on the picture or the above link to go to the site and purchase the book. |
